Thirsty Machines – AI on Tap
The exhibition Thirsty Machines: AI on Tap explores the increasing water consumption associated with the Rise of AI. It is part of the annual programme ORBIS PIXELORUM by Prater Digital at Prater Galerie and was presented in collaboration with SOMA Art Berlin.
The exhibition highlights the complex interplay of water and AI, and presents works by the artists Lauren Moffatt and Theresa Reiwer. Both their positions problematise the ecological impact of digital technologies, since they do not exist in isolation, but rather in constant interaction with natural resources and systems. These artworks therefore add to the highly topical debate on digital sustainability.
The exhibition is accompanied by an educational section with animated texts in 6 chapters and one center data visualisation. Visuals were generated by the use of image material by NASA and data by Data Center Map and Water Risk Atlas in Blender 3D.
